This cache is a series of caches to highlight the many towns, villages, hamlets, localities and crossroads around Victoria. It is based on a series of caches in South Australia initiated by local SA cacher Adelaideram. Adelaideram was contacted and is happy with the series spreading its wings into Victoria.
Raymond Island is 243km east of Melbourne on the Princes Highway and 18km south east of Bairnsdale. Access to the island is 200 metres from Paynesville by car ferry. Presently it costs $14 for a return trip by car or free for pedestrians and cyclists. Raymond Island is approximately 6km long and 2km wide. Raymond Island was named in honour of William Odell Raymond a magistrate from NSW who became a Gippsland squatter.
To find this cache you do not need to take your car on the ferry. Ground Zero is a short walk from the ferry.
