Nell'Antica Roma le venationes (dal latino "cacce") erano spettacoli pubblici nell'antica Roma che consistevano in cacce e combattimenti tra uomini (i venatores) e animali selvatici esotici (leoni, tigri, orsi, elefanti, ecc.), oppure tra gli animali stessi, che si svolgevano negli anfiteatri e nei circhi, spesso al mattino prima dei combattimenti gladiatori, simulando la vita selvatica con elaborate scenografie.
In Ancient Rome, venationes (from the Latin "hunts") were public spectacles in ancient Rome that consisted of hunts and fights between men (the venatores) and exotic wild animals (lions, tigers, bears, elephants, etc.), or between the animals themselves, which took place in amphitheaters and circuses, often in the morning before the gladiatorial combats, simulating wild life with elaborate sets.
