Geocache Description:

Abertridwr Railway Station is a former station that is currently closed and disused. It served the village of Abertridwr on the Caerphilly to Senghenydd branch of the Rhymney Railway until passenger services were withdrawn on 15th June 1964.  The former trackbed has been converted into a public footpath and cycleway.

The branch line was primarily built for coal transport. The station opened for passengers in 1894 to serve the growing coal industry in the Aber Valley, specifically the Windsor Colliery. It was renamed Abertridwr in 1899. Passenger services ended in 1964 as part of the Beeching cuts, though the station continued to handle goods until March 1965. At its peak, the station featured two platforms and a passing loop on what was otherwise a single-track branch line. One platform is still partially visible beside the footpath but little else remains of the station or its outbuildings.

The cache is hidden at the western end of the only remaining platform in a relic of the coal mining era. You will need a tweezers to extract the log from the cache. Please initial/sign the log and replace exactly as found. The site is popular with cyclists, dog walkers and joggers so stealth will be required.
