Trek Ten Trails, The Polk County Environmental Lands Program and the South Florida Water
Management District acquired this 4,031-acre property in February 1999 to preserve its
important ecological resources and its cultural history. SUMICA is home to at least 12
species of rare plants and animals. This property is the site of a former logging
community and sawmill. It's nestled beside the 7,500-acre Lake Walk-in-Water. The
name “SUMICA” comes from the timber town that was on the site in the early 1900s. Enjoy the four miles of hiking trails on the property. Horseback riders can explore nearly seven miles of trail. You can picnic, camp (primitive) and bicycle as well.
Located near Lake Wales, SUMICA has 3 trails providing a total of 9.1 miles of through pine flatwoods, oak hammock and marsh habitats.

You may see a variety of birds, including bald eagles, sandhill cranes, wild turkeys, falcon and wading birds. Also look for deer, bobcats, fox, gopher tortoises and bear tracks.
This is a Letterbox Hybrid cache. There is a log in the cache for you to sign & stamp. Please do not take the stamp with you - it is NOT a trade item. This geocache is a part of the Trek Ten Trails program. Participation in the program, while a lot of fun, is not required to log this cache.
