Geocache Description:

Earth Crush 6 💙 Calcaire est-il ?

🇫🇷

🇬🇧

With Flo, we share a great passion for geocaching: EarthCaches 🥰. We are intense rock hunters! 🪨😄 You could even say it’s a real crush 🤢. Our second geocaching passion is GeoArt 🤩. So we pushed ourselves a bit and decided to mix the two. A big headache to set up 😵‍, but in the end, totally doable.

Questions : Locate the site shown in the photo above and answer the following:

1 - What type of rock is shell limestone ?

2 - Based on your observation, name at least one of the organism remains ?

3 - What color are they ?

4 – Take a photo in front of this wall, with your geocaching username visible, and form a heart shape with your hands 🫶.

EarthCache Rules: "Log this "Found it" cache and send me your suggested answers either via my profile or via email, and I will contact you if there is a problem."

Lesson:

History and definition : Shell limestone is highly fossiliferous, composed of numerous fossilized organisms such as brachiopods, bryozoans, crinoids, sponges, corals, and mollusks (these are either casts or actual remains). It exhibits a wide variability in color, texture, and hardness. Shell limestone is a sedimentary rock, as it is composed of fragments. It is rich in broken shells, bound together by calcite. Calcium carbonate often represents about 10% of its volume, and shells of varying sizes are found within it, ranging from grains to very large pebbles.

Uses : This shell limestone has been used in construction because it has the advantage of being both durable and relatively easy to work.

Happy Géocaching everyone 😎
