REALLY SideTracked - Daybrook
This cache has been placed on the former Great Northern Railway (Great Britain) at what used to be Daybrook railway station. The station operated from 1876 until 1964, althought it closed to passengers in April 1960 following subsidence in Mapperley Tunnel. It wasn't until the winter 1961/62 edition of the Eastern Region timetable that the service was noted as being suspended. Closure to passengers of the Basford (North) to Netherfield & Colwick line through Daybrook was made official in March 1962. The station remained open for goods traffic, reached only from Leen Valley Junction to the west. Final closure to all traffic was in June 1964. For a short period after closure, the line to the west of the station was used to store condemned rolling stock including passenger carriages and coal wagons. Subsequently, the track was lifted and the whole site was demolished and redeveloped. The location is now home to a small retail park.
