I "grew up" as an Alaskan in Scenic Foothills. This was the first neighborhood I lived in when I moved to Alaska in 2016. I taught at East High (go T-birds!) right down the road and ate at Hacienda over on DeBarr Road so often that when I tried going on a Keto diet in 2020, they thought I'd gotten COVID and died. I've walked Baxter Bog more times than I can count, and have scars from the mosquito bites to prove it. I've kayaked Cheney Lake, woken up over a cup of coffee at Kaladi's, been snuck up on by a Moose in the Patterson Green Belt, and watched the Iditariders pass by on the Campbell Creek trail. I even hit my first snowbank while driving only a couple of blocks from here. This is my little corner of Eastside and it has always felt like my safe place.
I eventually changed schools and moved to Chugiak/Eagle River in 2021, but this place still has my heart (and my mortgage, which is subsidized by a rotation of really awesome travel nurses). I am placing this cache and a handful of others to celebrate a place that means so much to me.
This cache will require that you duck under and look back. Enjoy!
