Case # 020226 "The Disappearing Diamond"
Background: The 100-carat BeDazzler Diamond worth roughly $20 million dollars was stolen from a bank vault during the middle of the business day! The thief was incredibly sneaky but in the investigation of the crime scene, one hand scribbled note was found near the vault:
Six potential witnesses also came forward with possibly helpful information - each was in the vicinity at the time of the robbery.
Your job is to examine the following witness statements for clues and try to discover where the thief stashed the missing diamond.
Witness #1 "Ashley" - Ashley, a local high schooler, was nearby getting lunch. She was a bit hard to interview due to wearing headphones which were loudly playing "Golden" from K-Pop Demon Hunters. But between checking Snapchat, Insta, and Tiktok, Ashley mentioned learning some phrases from K-Pop did help her overhear the alleged thief say "여덟 (yeodeol)".
Witness #2 "Bill" - Bill, a computer programmer, was in the bank depositing dues for the local chapter of Star Trekkies after their monthly meeting. His statement included a lot of 0's and 1's, something like "00001001" followed by "Make It So" and "Engage". Then he joked that he "knew 10 jokes about binary - one is funny and the other isn't."
Witness #3 "Rhonda" - Rhonda, the morning baker at the local doughnut shop across the street from the bank, admitted she was too exhausted after her early morning wakeup to remember what she saw very clearly. But she did say she thought the thief looked 4 short of a baker's dozen, whatever that means. And she brought donuts for the whole police department when giving her statement, which was greatly appreciated.
Witness #4 "Leonard" - Leonard, a retired physics professor, was walking his dog past the bank at the time of the robbery. He was quite gruff and grumbled: "I'll tell you folks what Stephen Hawking said - 'When your expectations are reduced to zero, you really appreciate everything you do have.' " He was thanked for his time and info collected in case he was needed for further questioning.
Witness #5 "Dottie" - Dottie, a life long resident and avid baseball fan, recalled seeing the suspect after she left the yarn store next door. "He reminded me of my favorite player back in the day - the Kid!" Dottie offered the officer getting her statement a Werther's hard caramel, very nice lady.
Witness #6 "Zack" - Zack, a full time YouTube vlogger, was in the bank at the time of the robbery getting currency exchanged to euros for an upcoming trip to Rome, Italy where he would explore the origins of ancient numbering systems. Zack only made a one sentence witness statement: " 'I' have to hurry to catch my flight."
