Where have all the water gone?
One day I hiked deep into the dry lake bed to check out the remains of an old jetty. (On a masochistic day I plan to return and place a cache there.) On the way back I noticed some abandoned structures near this very place. I also noticed some vertical pipes sticking out from the salt. I read about some experiments studying groundwater under the lake and they used similar pipes. They can be something else too. Whatever they were, one of them seemed to be an ideal place to hide a small cache. (I hope one day I will have to archive this cache because of the rising lake levels.)
Getting to the cache can be easy if the lakebed is dry. It is less than a mile round trip from the parking lot. This hike also can be VERY muddy and very hot.. During the summer there is no shade and the salt crust reflects back the sun. Bugs also can be a problem in bug season. If you are lucky it's a 1.5 terrain. If not, it is a 3.
The cache is a signature Ribizli yogurt bottle. It has some Valentine day related swag.
