Steve Coogan is an English comedian, actor, and writer who was born in 1965 in Middleton, Greater Manchester, to Irish Catholic parents from County Mayo, Ireland, and grew up as one of seven siblings. As a child he developed a love of comedy, film, and performance, later studying drama at the Manchester Polytechnic School of Theatre. He rose to fame in the 1990s through radio and television comedy, most famously creating the painfully self-absorbed character Alan Partridge, who became a defining figure in British satire.
