Geocache Description:

This cache is available 8:00AM to 6:00 PM

Avondale Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale was founded in 1883 as a small cemetery to inter the victims of the smallpox pandemic that claimed the lives of 54 residents. The Avondale Holy Cross Cemetery gradually grew as the population increased, prompting the purchase of more land in 1918 north of the brown road.

The Avondale Holy Cross Cemetery hosts graves of prominent persons in Avondale, including mayors, veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, early pioneers, and Criminals. The grounds are under the maintenance of dedicated staff who provide affordable services earning the Avondale Holy Cross Cemetery an outstanding reputation.

One of the distinctive heritage marks at the Avondale Holy Cross Cemetery is the graves of unknown persons buried during the great depression. In addition, the Avondale Holy Cross Cemetery hosts graves of one American Airforce pilot and 23 British cadets. The service members died at the Falcon airfield training grounds during World War II.
