Quavey Well is on the route of an ancient trackway used for bringing salt north from the salt pans on the Solent at Lymington. The trade finally ceased in the mid 19th century with the advent of the Cheshire salt mines. The current well was built in 1900 for local use, and due to the local geology, was a reliable source, even in dry weather. It was in regular use until the 1950's, but is now padlocked for safety.
A few meters away, is a piched-roof War Memorial built in 1919. It records the names of those local men who died on active service in two World Wars.
