At ground zero, you will find four boards that describes the nearby remnants of an ancient Native American campsite. The campsite is located on the high ground along the north side of Cypress Creek at the edge of Elizabeth Kaiser Meyer Park. The site is designated as State of Texas archeological site 41HR991.
The artifacts found at the site indicate that various groups of nomadic prehistoric people returned every year on a seasonal basis to take advantage of the plentiful hunting and fishing opportinuites and the agreeable climate. Artifacts also indicate that people first came here for a limited period around 8,000 to 10,000 years ago (the Paleoindian period, 8,000 to 6,000 B.C.) and then camped here repeatedly over a period of 1,500 years.
To log this virtual, read the four boards at ground zero and send me the answer to the following questions:
1. How many total artifacts have been recovered from the campsite?
2. During the 1700s to 1800s, what ethnic group did the native prople belong to in Southeast Texas?
Optionally: Take a picture in front of the pond and post in your log.
Please do NOT post answers to the questions in your log.
Any Logs that do not meet the logging requirements will be deleted.
