Make your way down Apache Trail (State Route 88) to the Fish Creek Bridge and continue on to Roosevelt Dam. This is one of the most scenic drives in Arizona. Start in Apache Junction and make your way past Lost Dutchman's Starte Park, Goldfield Ghost Town, Tortilla Flat and Roosevelt Dam. A good round trip would be to continue on State Route188 from Roosevelt Dam onto State Route 87 back to Apache Junction. Distance from Tortilla Flat to Roosevelt Dam is about 26 miles of which about half is a dirt road with only one lane in some areas. Along this route you will cross Fish Creek Bridge. It is a one lane bridge built in 1923 as access to the Roosevelt Dam. The bridge has operated essentially unchanged for over a century. This route is a premier Arizona day trip. It was originally a stagecoach route and road to haul equipment when building Roosevelt Dam. There are a good number of miles within the dirt road section that are primitive, narrow, and rough. While a passenger car can likely nake the trail at low speeds, higher clearance vehicle may be better. There is roadside parking before the entrance on either side of the bridge.
