Welcome to Westminster Abbey, founded by Benedictine monks in 960AD and the coronation church since 1066.
Westminster Abbey is the final resting place of 17 monarchs, starting with Edward the Confessor in 1066 and ending with George II in 1760. Notable monarchs buried here include Elizabeth I, Mary I, Mary Queen of Scots, Henry VII, Henry V, and Charles II. The church we see today was begun by Henry III in 1245.
At the posted coordinates is a classic British cultural icon, a red phone box emblazoned with a prominent crown representing the British Government. This is the K6 (Kiosk No.6), designed in 1935 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of George V. The K6 was the first red telephone kiosk to be extensively used outside London, and many thousands were deployed in virtually every town and city.
