Die Aufgabe für diesen Virtual ist bewusst einfach gehalten. Ich würde mich freuen, dass der Virtual Dir trotzdem oder gerade deshalb besonders gut gefällt,
frei nach dem Motto „Der Weg ist das Ziel“. Du musst keine Experimente durchführen, keine Berechnungen lösen, keine Info-Tafeln nach Wörtern durchsuchen.
Begebe Dich einfach an den höchsten Punkt in Norddeutschland und genieße die Aussicht, sofern Du nicht einen der statistischen 306 Nebeltage erwischst.
Der Brocken, auch bekannt als Blocksberg, ist mit rd. 1.141m der höchste Berg im Harz und seit Jahrhunderten von Mythen, Sagen und Geschichte umwoben.
Dichter Nebel, plötzliche Wetterwechsel und das berühmte Brockengespenst haben dem Berg seinen geheimnisvollen Ruf eingebracht.
Besonders bekannt ist der Brocken als Schauplatz der Walpurgisnacht, in der der Sage nach Hexen und Teufel ihr Unwesen treiben.
Doch der Brocken ist nicht nur sagenhaft, sondern auch landschaftlich beeindruckend. Das Gipfelplateau bietet – bei klarer Sicht – weite Ausblicke
über den Harz und weit darüber hinaus. Die raue Natur, das subalpine Klima und die besondere Flora und Fauna machen diesen Ort zu etwas ganz Besonderem.
Der innere Ring auf dem Brockenplateau war ab 1961 sowjetisches Sperrgebiet. Als militärisches Sperrgebiet der Deutschen Demokratische Republik (DDR) ist
die Brockenkuppe lange Zeit nicht für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gewesen. Nach dem Mauerfall am 09. November 1989 in Berlin wurde der Zutritt zur
Brockenkuppe am 03. Dezember 1989 gegen 12:45 Uhr wieder ermöglicht. An der Stelle der damaligen Öffnung erinnert eine Erinnerungsstafel (Wegpunkt im listing).
Zum Brocken gibt es unterschiedliche Höhenangaben. Die häufigsten sind 1.141m und 1.142m, ganz genau sind es 1.141,2 m ü. NHN.
1996 hatten die Landesvermesser diese Höhe als amtliche Höhe festgestellt. Sie betrifft jedoch nicht die Höhe des Berges, sondern die des
trigonometrischen Punktes auf der Bergkuppe.
1997 wurde ein Felsbrocken auf dem Brockenplateau verbracht. An dem Stein wurden an der Stirnseite zwei Tafeln aus Bronze angebracht.
Eine Tafel gibt den Namen „Brocken“ und die Höhe mit „1.142 m“ an. Die darunter angebrachte Tafel zeigt den „Höhen-Strich“.
Um den Brockenstein wurde die „Brockenuhr“ installiert. Die Anlage wurde als kreisrunde Wegweiser-Windrose mit 30m Durchmesser ausgeführt.
Es sind um den zentralen Gipfelstein 48 Bronze-Tafeln mit Namen von Sichtzielen und weit außerhalb des Sichtfeldes liegenden
Landschaftspunkten und Ortschaften sowie Entfernungsangaben angeordnet und im Boden eingelassen.
Der Brocken befindet sich im Nationalpark Harz. Bitte verhalte Dich auch dementsprechend.Bleibe bitte auf den vorhandenen Wegen. Bitte führe Deinen Hund an der Leine.
1. Suche auf dem Gipfelplateau den Brockenstein mit der Höhenangabe 1.142m und dem Höhen-Stich.
2. Erstelle ein
Foto von Dir, einem Teil von Dir, einem Zettel mit Deinem Nick-Namen darauf oder deinem GPS-Gerät.
Dein Gesicht braucht nicht auf dem Foto sichtbar sein. Auf dem Foto muss der
Brockenstein mit Tafel und im
Hintergrund die Gebäude zu sehen sein,
idealerweise auch der beeindruckende rot/weiße Sendemast. Bei Nebel muss mind. der Brockenstein mit Tafel auf dem Foto zu erkennen sein.

Optionale Aufgabe: Erstelle ein weiteres Foto von Dir, einem Teil von Dir, einem Zettel mit Deinem Nick-Namen darauf oder deinem GPS-Gerät.
Gehe dazu Wegpunkt (im listing enthalten) der
Erinnerungstafel für die Öffnung der Brockenkuppe am 03.12.1989.
4. Logge anschließend Deinen Fund und lade dem Fund-Log mind. das Foto der Aufgabe Nr. 2 hoch.
Loggen kannst Du nach dem Besuch sofort. Wegen der ggf. schlechten Qualität der mobilen Datenverbindung
auf der Brockenkuppe sollte das Foto innerhalb von 7 Tagen dem Log angehängt werden.
Ich werde unregelmäßig die Logs prüfen, ob den Logs Fotos angehängt wurden. Logs ohne Fotos werde ich leider löschen.
Die Einstufung der D/T-Wertung
Der Besuch des Brockens kann je nach Wetter und Jahreszeit unterschiedlich herausfordernd sein. Daher ist D/T-Wertung höher angesetzt, z.B. für die Winterzeit.

The task for this Virtual is intentionally kept simple. Still, I hope that you will enjoy it very much—perhaps precisely because
of its simplicity—following the motto “The journey is the destination.”
You don’t need to perform any experiments, solve calculations, or search information boards for specific words.
Just head to the highest point in Northern Germany and enjoy the view—provided you’re not visiting on one of the statistically 306 foggy days.
Mystical & Historical Brocken
The Brocken, also known as the Blocksberg, is at approx. 1,141 m the highest mountain in the Harz and has been surrounded by myths, legends,
and history for centuries. Dense fog, sudden weather changes, and the famous Brocken Spectre have given the mountain its mysterious reputation.
The Brocken is particularly well‑known as the legendary site of Walpurgis Night, where witches and the devil are said to roam.
But the Brocken is not only legendary—it is also scenically impressive. The summit plateau offers wide, far-reaching views over the Harz and beyond,
provided the visibility is clear. The rugged nature, subalpine climate, and unique flora and fauna make this place very special.
The inner area of the Brocken plateau was a Soviet restricted zone starting in 1961. For many years, the summit was designated as
a military restricted area of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and inaccessible to the public. After the fall of the Berlin Wall
on November 9, 1989, access to the Brocken summit was reopened on December 3, 1989, at around 12:45 p.m. A memorial plaque at the listing waypoint marks the location of this historic opening.
The True, Correct, or Official Elevation Is…
Different elevation values exist for the Brocken. The most common numbers are 1,141 m and 1,142 m.
The exact value is 1,141.2 m above NHN. In 1996, state surveyors determined this value as the official elevation—but it refers
to the trigonometric survey point on the summit, not the mountain itself.
In 1997, a large stone was placed on the Brocken plateau. Two bronze plaques were attached to the front side of the stone.
One plaque shows the name “Brocken” and the elevation “1,142 m.” The plaque below it marks the height reference line.
The Brocken Clock
Around the Brocken stone, the “Brocken Clock” was installed. This circular compass rose has a diameter of 30 m.
Surrounding the central summit stone are 48 bronze plates embedded in the ground, marking visible destinations,
as well as landscape features and towns far beyond the visual range, each with distance information.
Behavior in the Harz National Park
The Brocken is located in Harz National Park. Please behave accordingly.
Please stay on the designated paths.
Please keep your dog on a leash.
Rules and regulations apply within the National Park.
The Virtual Task – Photo Requirement
1. Find the Brocken stone on the summit plateau with the elevation marker “1,142 m” and the height reference line.
2. Take a
photo of yourself, a part of yourself, a piece of paper with your nickname, or your GPS device. Your face doesn't have to be visible in the photo. The photo must
show the
Brocken stone with the plaque, and in the
background the buildings—ideally including the impressive red‑and‑white transmission tower.
In foggy conditions, the Brocken stone with plaque must at least be clearly visible.
A suggested photo position is provided at the end of the listing. --> Suggested photo angle

(optional task: Take another photo of yourself, a part of yourself, a paper with your nickname, or your GPS device
at the waypoint marking the
memorial plaque commemorating the reopening of the Brocken summit on December 3, 1989.
4. Log your find and upload at least the required photo from step 2 with your log.
You may log immediately after your visit. Due to potentially poor mobile data reception at the summit, please upload your photo within 7 days.
I will occasionally review logs to ensure the photo requirement is met. Unfortunately, logs without photos must be deleted.
Classification of the D/T Rating
Visiting the Brocken can vary in difficulty depending on weather and season. For this reason, the D/T rating is set a bit higher, especially for conditions such as winter.
