Tančící dům stojí na rohu Rašínova nábřeží a
Jiráskova náměstí na místě, kde původně stával činžovní dům z konce
19. století, zničený při bombardování Prahy v roce 1945. Po válce
zůstala parcela dlouhá desetiletí nezastavěná a postupně se stala
symbolem proměn města. Až po politických změnách na konci 20.
století vznikla myšlenka na její nové využití. Projekt byl svěřen
architektu Vladu Milunićovi, který ke spolupráci přizval Franka
Gehryho. Stavba byla realizována v letech 1994 až 1996 a od počátku
vyvolávala živé diskuse, protože výrazně kontrastovala s historickou
zástavbou Nového Města. Postupem času se však budova stala
respektovanou součástí pražské architektury a symbolem svobodného
vývoje města po roce 1989. Dnes objekt slouží především
administrativním, kulturním a společenským účelům a zároveň
představuje významnou ukázku moderní architektury zasazené do
historického prostředí.

jakýkoliv taneční styl – od elegantního valčíku či společenského
tance až po energický street dance. Fantazii se meze nekladou. Pokud
nechcete zveřejňovat svou fotografii, můžete na místě „roztančit“
alespoň svůj osobní předmět a vyfotit jej s Tančícím domem.

The Dancing House stands at the
corner of Rašínovo Embankment and Jirásek Square, on the site where
an apartment building from the late 19th century once stood, which
was destroyed during the bombing of Prague in 1945. After the war,
the plot remained vacant for several decades and gradually became a
symbol of the city’s transformation. It was not until the political
changes at the end of the 20th century that the idea of its new use
emerged. The project was entrusted to architect Vlado Milunić, who
invited Frank Gehry to collaborate. Construction took place between
1994 and 1996 and sparked lively public debate from the very
beginning, as it strongly contrasted with the historic buildings of
the New Town. Over time, however, the building became a respected
part of Prague’s architecture and a symbol of the city’s free
development after 1989. Today, the building serves mainly
administrative, cultural, and social purposes, while also
representing an important example of modern architecture set within
a historic environment.

photo of the Dancing House together with you while you are dancing.
You can choose any dance style—from an elegant waltz or ballroom
dance to energetic street dance. Imagination has no limits. If you
prefer not to share a personal photo, you can instead “make your
personal item dance” on site and photograph it with the Dancing
House.
