Geocache Description:

The Foshay Tower is a historic Minneapolis skyscraper with a very interesting past. Originally it was the tallest building between Chicago to the West Coast.  In earlier times, one could feel "On top of the world" looking unobstructed over the City from the observation deck.  It still is impressive to see the Foshay Tower "Standing Tall" nestled among the modern, much taller buildings now surrounding it.  From a distance in the evening, it can be stunning to see the lit up Foshay signs on the top of the building.

Designed in Art Deco Style architecture, the monolith was inspired/modeled after the Washington Monument.  Completed in 1929 the building has 32 floors and stands 447 feet high, not including the antenna mast.  Six weeks after the grand opening, the building was thrown into financial receivership, part of the blame due to the stock market collapse.  This led to a number of changes in ownership over the following years. A reminder of the "Golden Ages" of the 1920's, the iconic structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.  The requirement to receive credit for this Virtual is to post a picture from the posted coordinates. You do not have to be in the picture, and may substitute a sign, your finger pointing, your GPS, etc. with the Foshay Tower/ door in the background.  I have included a picture I took from the posted coordinates for a sample, and placed it in the photo gallery.  If your photo is not included, your posted log unfortunately may be deleted.
