"On 6 July 2021, crime journalist Peter R. de Vries (1956) was shot on the street in the heart of Amsterdam. Nine days later, he died as a result of his injuries. His murder deeply shocked society, and was regarded as an attack on journalism and the rule of law.
In both word and deed, Peter R. de Vries frequently went against the tide in standing up for people caught between justice and injustice. He did so with courage, commitment and determination.
This monument represents the essence of his ideas: two hands touch, support, welcome and protect one another. This act puts into practice a sense of justice.
In his final letter, Peter R. de Vries shared a principle that was important to him. Translated into 41 languages, this principle covers the outsides of the two hands and forearms.
This memorial monument, Against the Tide, encourages the continuation of his legacy. It is an enduring source of inspiration for creating a more just and caring society in which oppressed people are heard and helped. The monument therefore not only conveys the values held dear by Peter R. de Vries, but also those of the City of Amsterdam."
Your task:
The sculpture bears the words "be who you are, stand up for minorities and the less fortunate, speak your mind honestly, and listen to your sense of justice." in 41 languages.
To correctly log this Virtual Cache, you have to take TWO pictures :
1. a picture of yourself at the geocache location with the sculpture as background. A picture with a paper with your name on it or with a personal tag or goodie is also fine.
2. find the sentence in your language and take a picture of you pointing it.
The pictures has to be posted with your found log. Do not send it via message centre!! Logs without correct pictures will be deleted!

"Op 6 juli 2021 werd misdaadjournalist Peter R. de Vries (1956) op straat in het hart van Amsterdam doodgeschoten. Negen dagen later overleed hij aan zijn verwondingen. Zijn moord schokte de samenleving diep en werd beschouwd als een aanval op de journalistiek en de rechtsstaat.
Peter R. de Vries ging, zowel in woord als daad, vaak tegen de stroom in om op te komen voor mensen die gevangen zaten tussen recht en onrecht. Hij deed dit met moed, toewijding en vastberadenheid.
Dit monument vertegenwoordigt de essentie van zijn ideeën: twee handen raken elkaar aan, ondersteunen, verwelkomen en beschermen elkaar. Deze handeling brengt een gevoel van rechtvaardigheid in de praktijk.
In zijn laatste brief deelde Peter R. de Vries een principe dat hem na aan het hart lag. Dit principe, vertaald in 41 talen, is te zien op de buitenkant van de twee handen en onderarmen.
Dit gedenkteken, Tegen de Stroom in, moedigt de voortzetting van zijn nalatenschap aan. Het is een blijvende bron van inspiratie voor het creëren van een rechtvaardigere en zorgzamere samenleving waarin onderdrukte mensen gehoord en geholpen worden. Het monument belichaamt daarom niet alleen de waarden die Peter R. de Vries na aan het hart lagen, maar ook die van de stad Amsterdam."
Jouw taak:
De sculptuur draagt de woorden "Wees wie je bent, kom op voor minderheden en de minderbedeelden, spreek je mening eerlijk uit en luister naar je gevoel voor rechtvaardigheid" in 41 talen.
Om deze virtuele cache correct te loggen, moet je TWEE foto's maken:
1. Een foto van jezelf op de geocachelocatie met de sculptuur op de achtergrond. Een foto met een papiertje met je naam erop of met een persoonlijk label of goodie is ook prima.
2. Zoek de zin in jouw taal en maak een foto van jezelf terwijl je ernaar wijst.
De foto's moeten samen met je gevonden cache worden geplaatst. Stuur ze NIET via het berichtenvenster! Logs zonder de juiste foto's worden verwijderd!
LET OP: Gebruik hiervoor NIET het berichtenvenster of e-mail. Je kunt een collage maken van je twee foto's of de Geocaching-website gebruiken om je tweede foto te uploaden. Bedankt voor je medewerking!
