Welcome to the Veterans Memorial at Fountain Park.
The Memorial was dedicated in 2005 after 4 years of hard work by members of local veterans organizations and local contractors volunteering time and services to build the structure. It stands as an everlasting tribute to our veterans and is a reminder that the freedom that we enjoy is not free.
The Memorial is located adjacent to Fountain Lake which features one of the world’s largest fountains. Fountain Park is a 64-acre recreation area anchored to the Fountain Hills Town Center. It was built in 1970 and offers many enjoyable features!!
The Memorial is one of the most beautiful and somber memorials to veterans anywhere in the state, maybe even the country. It is a peaceful spot for reflection, offering visitors a chance to pay their respects while enjoying the scenic surroundings and is a good place to pause while on a walk around Fountain Park or even worth a special visit when there is solitude to reflect on what and who is memorialized.
The Memorial consists of four distinct areas, the Memorial Plaza, the Main Wall, the Cannon Area, and the Donor Wall. It is perfectly landscaped and is a fitting memorial to our Nations Veterans!!
Memorial Plaza
On one end of the Memorial Plaza 3 flags wave high and proud!! Standing on the other end of the Plaza is the statue of an aging World War I soldier wearing the Medal of Honor, holding a cane in one hand and saluting the flags with the other.
Main Wall
There is something to be learned by pausing to consider the seven plaques on the Main Wall of the Memorial depicting six specific conflicts, the Spanish American War, World War I, World War !!, Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf War, and one summarizing 21st Century conflicts. Each plaque includes the grim numbers of dead, wounded and missing for each of those conflicts.
Cannon Area
The howitzer artillery piece central to the Memorial did duty in World War II, Korea and Vietnam before it was retired to a military surplus. It was acquired and placed at the Memorial with the help of reserve organizations in the state. The gun is ringed by plaques of emblems for each of five branches of the military; Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard.
Donor Wall
The Donor Wall has plaques with names of those that made a donation to the Memorial, categorized as Benefactors, Sponsors and Friends. Read the names. If you see any of them, say thanks for their effort to create and support the Fountain Hills Veterans Memorial.
Annual Ceremony
Each Memorial Day hundreds gather at the Memorial for an annual ceremony to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the cause of freedom.
This annual ceremony is a cherished community tradition, offering residents and visitors a meaningful opportunity to reflect, remember, and give thanks to those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
