Am 30. Oktober 2019 wurde die Stadt Karlsruhe von der UNESCO als erste und bisher einzige deutsche Stadt in das internationale UNESCO Creative Cities Network als Stadt der Medienkunst aufgenommen.
Karlsruhe wird durch die enge Verknüpfung von Kunst, Technologie und Wissenschaft geprägt. Maßgeblich sind das Zentrum für Kunst und Medien (ZKM) als weltweit führende Institution, die spektakulären Schlosslichtspiele, interaktive Kunst im öffentlichen Raum sowie ein starkes Netzwerk aus Kreativwirtschaft und IT-Forschung.
Wichtige Eckpfeiler sind hier:
- Zentrum für Kunst und Medien (ZKM): Als "mediales Zentrum" ist das ZKM ein zentraler Akteur, der digitale Kunst erforschbar und erlebbar macht.
- Schlosslichtspiele: Die jährlich stattfindenden Projektionen auf die Schlossfassade verwandeln Karlsruhe in eine Open-Air-Medienkunstbühne.
- "Media art is here": Medienkunst ist in Karlsruhe im öffentlichen Raum präsent und interaktiv, oft mit Fokus auf Nachhaltigkeit.
- Netzwerk & Förderung: Ein Zusammenschluss aus rund 40 Institutionen, darunter das KIT (Karlsruher Institut für Technologie), fördert die digitale Kultur und Kreativwirtschaft.
- Kulturelles Engagement: Veranstaltungen wie die "art Karlsruhe" und das "Kunstrauschen" stärken die lokale Kunstszene und vernetzen sie international.
Ein Besuch des ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medien), vor dem Ihr jetzt steht, ist für diesen Cache nicht notwendig, lohnt sich aber auf alle Fälle! Jeden Freitag von 14 - 18 Uhr ist der Eintritt in die Ausstellungen des ZKM übrigens kostenlos!

Mache ein Foto von Dir, Deinem GPS, deinem Geocaching-Namen oder einem anderen persönlichen Gegenstand mit dem ZKM im Hintergrund. Sei dabei ganz im Sinne des UNESCO Status von Karlsruhe so kreativ wie möglich und poste das (oder die) Fotos in Deinem Log.

On October 30, 2019, the city of Karlsruhe was inducted into the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a City of Media Arts, becoming the first and, to date, only German city to receive this designation.
Karlsruhe is characterized by the close connection between art, technology, and science. Key factors include the Center for Art and Media (ZKM), a world-leading institution, the spectacular Palace Light Festival, interactive art in public spaces, and a strong network of creative industries and IT research. Important cornerstones of this network are:
- Center for Art and Media (ZKM): As a "media center," the ZKM is a central player that makes digital art accessible and engaging.
- Palace Light Festival: The annual projections onto the palace facade transform Karlsruhe into an open-air stage for media art.
- "Media art is here": Media art is present and interactive in Karlsruhe's public spaces, often with a focus on sustainability.
- Network & Funding: A consortium of approximately 40 institutions, including KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), promotes digital culture and the creative industries.
- Cultural engagement: Events like "art Karlsruhe" and "Kunstrauschen" strengthen the local art scene and connect it internationally.
A visit to the ZKM museum is not necessary for this cache, but it's definitely worthwhile! Every Friday from 2 - 6 pm admission to the ZKM exhibitions is free!
Logging requirement:
Take a photo of yourself, your GPS device, your geocaching name, or another personal item with the ZKM in the background. In keeping with Karlsruhe's UNESCO status, be as creative as possible and post the photo(s) in your log.
