Welcome to Chester, Illinois, home of Popeye the Sailor Man!
Chester is a small river town with a big claim to fame. It is the birthplace of Elzie Crisler Segar, the creator of Popeye, who first appeared in the Thimble Theatre comic strip in 1929. What started as a side character quickly turned into an American icon known for strength, humor, and that famous love of spinach.
To honor their hometown connection to Popeye, Chester installed several statues around town celebrating Segar’s characters and legacy. This statue is one of the most recognizable and a favorite stop for visitors exploring the area.
In order to log this virtual, you need to do the following:
- Go to the posted coordinates and take a photo of a personal item with the Popeye statue. You must include the photo in your log in order to recieve credit for this cache. Bonus points if you show your best Popeye strength pose!
