Geocache Description:

The Shootout at the O.K. Corral is the stuff of tall tales and true grit—famous with history buffs, movie lovers, and any cowpoke who appreciates a good dust-up. The broad strokes are well known, but here’s some trail dust you might not have heard:

  1. Some folks swear the shootin’ went down right here in the street where you’re standin’. Others’ll tell ya it happened in the skinny alley nearby. History can be a bit slippery when bullets start flying.

  2. The first silver-screen telling of the gunfight was Frontier Marshal (1939), with Randolph Scott ridin’ tall as Wyatt Earp.

  3. The 1957 flick Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, starin’ Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas, went on to become a bona fide Western classic.

  4. Even space cowboys got mixed up in it—Star Trek’s episode “Spectre of the Gun” where Kirk, Spock, and McCoy are forced to re-enact the famous gunfight.

  5. Tombstone (1993) and Wyatt Earp (1994) rode into theaters just months apart. When the dust settled, Tombstone was the one still standin’.

  6. John Behan was the first Sheriff of Cochise County—and he was wearin’ the badge when the lead started flyin’.

  7. The whole gunfight lasted about 30 seconds.

Watch your step, keep your eyes open, and don’t draw faster than you can log… 🤠

HOW TO LOG THIS HERE VIRTUAL CACHE (NO SHOOTIN’ REQUIRED)

To prove you actually rode into town and didn’t just hear about it from a fella at the saloon, do ONE of the following right here on this street:

🤠 Option 1: The “I Was Here” Proof
Post (or message the cache owner) a selfie of yourself at this location. Feel free to use hats, sunglasses, bandanas, or dramatic Old West squints.

🐴 Option 2: The Camera-Shy Cowboy Clause
If you ain’t keen on showin’ your mug, post (or message the cache owner) a photo of something clearly Geocaching-related (GPS unit, phone with the Geocaching app open, trackable, etc.) taken at the coordinates.

📸 Rules of the Trail
• Photos must be taken at this location
• Stock images, and tall tales won’t pass inspection
• No photo = no log (them’s the rules of the range)

Once you’ve shown your proof, log your find, tip your hat to history, and mosey on out like a respectable cacher.

Now git to huntin’, partner 🤠📦
