Die Roßfeldhöhenringstraße wurde während der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus als Teil der Deutschen Alpenstraße geplant.
Die Alpenstraße sollte in der Strecke beginnend vom Bodensee im Bereich Unterau–Oberau–Roßfeld–Obersalzberg–Hinterbrand–Königssee ihren grandiosen Abschluss finden.
Mit der Republik Österreich wurde ein Staatsvertrag geschlossen, da die Scheitelstrecke auf österreichischer Seite liegt. Nach dem Vertrag gestattete Österreich der Bundesrepublik Deutschland die Benutzung und Erhaltung des Straßenteils auf österreichischem Staatsgebiet. Außerdem enthält der Vertrag unter anderem Regelungen zum Straßenbau-, Straßenverkehrs- und Haftungsrecht. Für die auf österreichischem Hoheitsgebiet liegenden Straßengrundstücke ist die Bundesrepublik Deutschland als Eigentümer im Grundbuch eingetragen.
Heutzutage ist die Straße und vor allem die Scheitelstrecke eine beliebte Ausflugsdestination und bietet ein herrliches Panorama nach Österreich und Deutschland.

Anmerkung: Die Roßfeldstraße ist für ein- und mehrspurige Kraftfahrzeuge mautpflichtig! Mit dem Fahrrad bzw eBike kostenlos. Es führen ebenfalls beschilderte Wanderwege zur Scheitelstrecke.

The Rossfeld High Alpine Road was planned during the Nazi era as part of the German Alpine Road. The Alpine Road was intended to culminate in a grand finale along the route from Lake Constance through Unterau-Oberau-Rossfeld-Obersalzberg-Hinterbrand and Königssee.
A state treaty was concluded with the Republic of Austria, as the summit section lies on the Austrian side. According to the treaty, Austria granted the Federal Republic of Germany the right to use and maintain the section of the road on Austrian territory. The treaty also includes regulations concerning road construction, traffic law, and liability. The Federal Republic of Germany is registered as the owner of the road parcels located on Austrian territory.
Today, the road, and especially the summit section, is a popular tourist destination, offering a magnificent panorama of Austria and Germany.

Note: The Roßfeldstraße is a toll road for single-track and multi-track motor vehicles! It's free for bicycles and e-bikes. Signposted hiking trails also lead to the summit.
