Das Theater der Nacht entstand 1988 durch die Initiative des Künstlerehepaars Ruth und Heiko Brockhausen.
In den 1990er Jahren reifte die Idee, die ehemalige 1936–1938 errichtete Northeimer Feuerwache und später vom THW genutzte Immobilie zu einem Figurentheater umzubauen.
Im Frühjahr 1999 begannen die Umbauarbeiten des Hauses zum Figurentheater.
Nach etwa zweijähriger Umbauzeit wurde das Theater der Nacht bei einem Festakt im August 2001 eröffnet. 2013 fand noch eine bauliche Erweiterung statt.
Der Theatersaal fasst knapp 100 Zuschauer. Betrieben wird es heute vom gemeinnützigen Verein „Theater der Nacht e. V.“.

The "Theater der Nacht" was founded in 1988 on the initiative of artist couple Ruth and Heiko Brockhausen.
In the 1990s, the idea arose to convert the former Northeim fire station, built between 1936 and 1938 and later used by the THW, into a puppet theatre.
In the spring of 1999, work began on converting the building into a puppet theatre.
After about two years of renovation, the "Theater der Nacht" was opened with a ceremony in August 2001. In 2013, the building was expanded.
The theatre hall seats just under 100 spectators. Today, it is run by the non-profit association "Theater der Nacht e. V.".
