Das Heinz-Erhardt-Denkmal wurde 2003 am Weender Tor aufgestellt, um an den berühmten Komiker, Schauspieler, Musiker, Dichter & Unterhaltungskünstler Heinz Erhardt und die Blütezeit der lokalen Göttinger Filmgeschichte zu erinnern. Denn Göttingen war in den 1950er-Jahren ein bedeutender Standort für die deutsche Nachkriegs-Filmindustrie mit modernen Filmstudios am Elliehäuser Weg auf dem Gelände des früheren Flugplatzes. Zwischen 1949 und 1961 wurden in Göttingen insgesamt 102 Spielfilme hergestellt, davon 94 im Atelier. Heinz Erhardt, der von 1909 bis 1979 lebte, drehte zwischen 1956 und 1960 acht Filme in Göttingen. Das Denkmal steht am Heinz-Erhardt-Platz (2003 ihm zu Ehren so benannt) — genau an jener Kreuzung (Weender Tor), wo Heinz Erhardt in seinem bekanntesten Göttinger Film „Natürlich die Autofahrer“ (1959) als Polizist Eberhard Dobermann den Verkehr regelt. Das Denkmal bzw. die Stele wurde von der Göttinger Firma „Die Signmaker“ erstellt. Auf der Stele ist eine Infotafel angebracht, die an Erhardts Filmrolle erinnert. Die rund zwei Meter hohe Stele besteht aus bedampftem Acryl- bzw. Plexiglas. Als kurioses Ereignis gilt, dass im Oktober 2019 die Stele für kurze Zeit entwendet wurde, drei Wochen später am Göttinger Wall beschädigt wieder auftauchte, von der Firma Klartext restauriert und von der Stadt wieder aufgestellt wurde. Dabei wurde eine Diebstahlsicherung eingebaut.

In the 1950s, Göttingen was a major hub for the post-war German film industry, boasting modern film studios on Elliehäuser Weg—located on the site of the former airfield. A total of 102 feature films were produced in Göttingen between 1949 and 1961, 94 of which were filmed in the studio. Heinz Erhardt (1909–1979) shot eight films in Göttingen between 1956 and 1960. The monument stands at Heinz-Erhardt-Platz (named in his honor in 2003)—at the very intersection (Weender Tor) where Erhardt, playing the police officer Eberhard Dobermann, directs traffic in his most famous Göttingen-based film, "Natürlich die Autofahrer" (1959). The monument—a stele—was created by the Göttingen-based company "Die Signmaker." An information panel commemorating Erhardt’s film role is mounted on the stele, which stands approximately two meters tall and is made of vapor-coated acrylic (Plexiglas). Another geocacher pointed out to me that "white mice" is a colloquial term in Germany for traffic police. Traffic officers used to wear predominantly white uniform components; they drove green patrol cars with white fenders, and some of the cars even had white roofs. And in the film, Mr. Dobermann happens to be a traffic police officer.
