Geocache Description:

21/02/2026

“You know that place between sleep and awake, the place where you still remember dreaming? That’s where I’ll always love you.” – J.M Barrie, Peter Pan

(Photo of our wedding at Paloma Gardens 21/02/26)

Welcome to the beautiful Virginia Lake. A place I have many fond memories, hopefully this cache will allow people to create some of their own. This virtual cache holds a very special place in our hearts as I am creating it to celebrate our wedding day, February the 21st 2026,  and to share a little bit of our own “awfully big adventure” with the geocaching community.

I chose the statue of Peter Pan for this cache because I believe that a great marriage, much like the game of geocaching, requires you to never completely grow up. It takes a willingness to keep playing, keep exploring, and keep seeking out hidden magic in the everyday world.

This beautiful bronze sculpture was crafted by British sculptor Cecil Thomas and is entirely unique to Whanganui. If you look closely at the base, you’ll see that Peter isn’t surrounded by the fairies of Neverland, but rather by native New Zealand wildlife, of which you will need to identify for one of the cache requirements!

Whether you are visiting this cache solo, with friends, or with the love of your life, we hope you take a moment to enjoy the lake, feed the ducks, and remember to keep a little bit of childlike wonder alive in your heart.

Alright let’s talk about how you can log this cache:

The 21-point challenge

To celebrate our wedding on February 21st, you must earn a total of 21 points by completing tasks at the Peter Pan statue.

Rules:

          1.       You must collect at least 21 Points.

          2.       You must complete at least one task from each of the coloured sections below.

          3.       Send your answers and point tally to me via message. Post any photos in your log.

          4.       You may log your find straight away, I will let you know if there’s something that needs changing.

          5.     You must actually visit the site and will need to for most of the tasks anyway.

          6.     Please include in your log the total tally of points you racked up. See how many you can get! (Maybe even go for all of them…)

Green Section: THE HISTORIAN (Please send the answer(s) to me for at least 1 task)

A: Who made the statue? (1 point)

B: What are the first and last names of the 2 people who gifted the statue to Whanganui? (5 points)

C: Find what year the statue was gifted to Whanganui, subtract the year that Peter Pan first appeared in a book from this year. What is the result? (6 points)

Blue section: THE RIDDLER (Please look at the statue and find the creature that matches the riddle then send the answer(s) to me for at least 1 task)

A: When the sun goes down, I open my eyes, a silent hunter under moonlit skies. Listen for my name called through the dark, a feathered watchman on the frozen bark. (3 points)

B: I carry my home upon my back, leaving a silver shimmering track. On this bronze stump, I’m slowly creeping, while all the forest birds are sleeping. (3 points)

C: I am the guardian of an ancient lineage, with a ‘third eye’ to see through the age. Not quite a lizard, though I look the part, I’ve lived in Aotearoa from the very start. (3 points)

D: I’m dressed in my best for the grand affair, a black and white suit for a perfect pair. I've waddled from the sea to the wedding aisle, to see the new couple and give them a smile. Who is this guest in their formal attire, frozen in bronze by the forest fire? (5 points)

E: With wings of gold and a heart of light, I sparkle in the sun so bright. Just like the precious band you wear, I’m a circle of magic in the air. I watch over Peter with a watchful eye, a tiny witness to a vow and a sigh. (5 points)

Red section: THE PHOTOGRAPHER (Please take at least 1 of these photos and include it (or them) in your log, to upload more then 1 photo you can use the web browser version of geocaching.com)

A: Take a picture of the statue with something obviously geocaching related, eg. a GPS, a phone, a pencil, your username, yourself… (1 point) Some examples:

B: Take a picture of you interacting with Peter Pan. Be creative! (3 points) Some examples:

C: Take a picture/selfie with the statue and you with someone you love making a heart shape with your hands. (5 points) Example:

Now check over your work and make sure you have completed 1 task from each section and reached a total of 21 points!

If you need any help or something doesn't add up/ make sense, please feel free to message me.
