In dit rustige stadje Merselo vindt u een kleine rustplaats aan het einde van Coppelenberg, waar deze aansluit op Grootdorp. Dit is de plek waar eerdere generaties van mijn familie samenkwamen en genoten van een ontsnapping aan de dagelijkse sleur en tijd doorbrachten met vrienden.
De locatie was oorspronkelijk vernoemd naar mijn oudoom Handry Oon. Het varken werd in 2011 geplaatst. Het draagt de naam "Hannes" en symboliseert een bijzonder jubileumjaar:
“’T vèrké is ’t symbool van VASTÈLAOVESVERÈNIGING DE ZAGEWÈTTERS, en stût daarom dan ok ien ur logo.
Dat was ien ’t begin nie zô van zèlf sprèkend, want ùrst zûn ze DE PÈZERIKKÈ gaon hiette, dit naor ’t mannelijk geslachtsdiel van ’t vèrké, mar dat vöóndè de minse tòch wat óngepast!”

In this quiet town of Merselo, you will come across a small rest area at the end of Coppelenberg where it connects with Grootdorp. This is where previous generations of my family would meet and enjoy a place where they would escape daily life and enjoy time spent with friends.
The location was originally named after my Great Uncle Handry Oon. The pig status was placed in 2011. He bears the name “Hannes” and he signifies a special anniversary:
“The pig is the symbol of Carnival Association De Zagewetters, and therefore also appears in their logo.
That was not self-evident at first, because initially they wanted to call themselves De Pezerikke (the male sexual organ of the pig), but people found that rather inappropriate!”
Since a pezerik is also used to help a saw slide smoothly through wood — something they were well aware of — a more decent name was chosen that meant the same thing - “The Zagewetters”
In 2012, the association founded in 1957 existed for five times eleven years (55 years).
In honor of this jubilee year, this statue was placed in the center of Merselo and unveiled on the 11th of the 11th, 2011.
It symbolizes the bond between Merselo and the pig, and this is therefore also the place where the carnival season is opened each year on the 11th of the 11th.
