Hackås Church is the parish church of the Diocese of Härnösand. The church is probably the oldest preserved in Norrland and since the Middle Ages it has been a parish church abd also a pilgrimage church in Hackås parish.
The church was built sometime around the 12th century or earlier and is the only one in Jämtland that has a semi-circular apse. The sacristy with its associated choir apse can be traced back to the millennium. Other older features are the greater part of the nave. In 1770-1771 the nave was extended to the west and the church then took on its current plan. In 1972 excavations were carried out when the remains of an older church tower were found at the western end.
In the apse there are chalk paintings from the 13th century with motifs from the legend of Saint Margaret. The walls were decorated in 1601 with paintings in pictorially shaped fields that describe The Last Supper, At the Grave of Christ and The Fountain of Life. The paintings were done by the village painters Olaus Erici and Jonas Erici. The organ was built in 1874 by Johan Gustaf Ek.
The bell tower was built in 1752 by Per Olofsson in Dillne.
