Grad Rab naše je omiljeno mjesto za odmor. Ovdje smo boravili više od deset puta i redovito se vraćamo.
Grad ima dugu povijest koja seže u 360. godinu prije Krista, kada su ga naselili Iliri. Otok je predstavljao granicu između regija Liburnije i Dalmacije. Od 3. stoljeća prije Krista do 6. stoljeća poslije Krista Rab je bio dio Rimskog Carstva, a car August proglasio ga je municipijem 10. godine prije Krista. Bio je to prvi grad rimske Dalmacije koji je dobio počasni naziv „felix”.
Danas je to prekrasan srednjovjekovni grad koji svakako vrijedi posjetiti. Ondje se nalaze kino, knjižnica, mnoge lijepe ulice i crkve, pa čak i park-šuma Komrčar – koju je 1890. godine osnovao Pravdoje Belia i koja se prostire na 10 akri (što znači da je veća od samog grada!). Park obiluje borovima i stablima crnike starijima od stotinu godina.
A onda smo dobili zadatak sakriti virtualni geocache – odmah smo znali da je grad Rab najbolje mjesto za to.
Stoga smo osmislili malu turu kroz grad s pet postaja na kojima se morate fotografirati sami ili snimiti fotografiju svog osobnog predmeta. Zapisi (logovi) bez svih pet fotografija bit će izbrisani – kao vlasnik sam pedantan i provjeravat ću unose :)
STAGE 1
Vaša tura kroz grad počinje na plaži. Ovdje ćete pronaći vrlo zanimljive stijene – pješčenjake s uzorkom saća („Saćasti pješčenjak”). Nastale su isparavanjem slane vode u blokovima pješčenjaka; sol koja je preostala kemijski je reagirala s pješčenjakom i stvorila te prepoznatljive rupe.
Zanimljivost: Ovo su najfotografiranije stijene na Rabu!
Vaš zadatak: Fotografirajte informativnu ploču ili same stijene tako da se na fotografiji vidite vi ili vaš osobni predmet. Alternativno, ako je na plaži prevelika gužva, prihvatit će se i fotografija stijena izbliza.
STAGE 2
Sada se popnite uz obližnje stube koje vode uzbrdo. Hodate kroz park-šumu Komrčar. Sljedeća postaja je vidikovac smješten na vrhu starih gradskih zidina. Kad stignete na vrh brijega, skrenite desno i obiđite gradske zidine. Sada, kad se nađete iza zidina, prođite kroz vrata s lijeve strane i popnite se uz stube. Nalazite se na mjestu s jednim od najboljih (ako ne i najboljim) pogleda u gradu.
Vaš zadatak: Fotografirajte pogled tako da na fotografiji budete vi ili neki vaš osobni predmet. Alternativno, ako su ulazna vrata iz bilo kojeg razloga zatvorena, prihvatit će se i fotografija snimljena ispred vrata.
STAGE 3
Nakon što uživate u pogledu, spustite se natrag i slijedite strelicu. Ubrzo ćete stići do Trga slobode – malog trga s još jednim prekrasnim pogledom. S desne strane možda ćete primijetiti velik crveni zid. To je zid crkve sv. Justina na kojem ćete pronaći mnoštvo potpisa ljudi koji su ovdje boravili prije vas.
Vaš zadatak: Fotografirajte pogled i/ili zid (može biti riječ o detalju ili potpisu koji vam se sviđa) tako da na fotografiji budete i vi ili neki vaš osobni predmet.
STAGE 4
Nastavite pratiti strelicu i na raskrižju krenite prema gore. Sada stojite u podnožju najvišeg tornja na otoku – zvonika katedrale Uznesenja Blažene Djevice Marije. Toranj je visok 26 metara, a s njegova vrha pruža se najbolji pogled na grad!
No, otvoren je samo od 9:30 do 13:00 i od 19:30 do 22:00 sata (od ponedjeljka do subote) te nedjeljom od 11:00 do 13:00 i od 19:45 do 22:00 sata, a ulaz se naplaćuje 5 €. Želimo da ovaj geocache bude dostupan 24 sata dnevno, a tko bi želio plaćati za pronalazak geocachea? Stoga se kao dokaz prihvaća i fotografija tornja (snimljena iz podnožja).
Vaš zadatak: Fotografirajte sebe ili svoj osobni predmet – bilo s vrha tornja ili tako da se u pozadini vidi toranj snimljen iz podnožja.
STAGE 5
Polako se približavamo kraju naše ture. Posljednja postaja nalazi se u parku Dorka. Nastavite ulicom i ispred crkve spustite se niz stepenice. Sada krenite prema sredini parka – tamo se nalazi kip svetog Marina. To je čovjek koji je osnovao San Marino! Rođen je na Rabu oko 275. godine.
Vaš zadatak: Fotografirajte se (ili fotografirajte neki svoj osobni predmet) zajedno s kipom svetog Marina.

The city of Rab is our most favorite spot for a vacation. We have been here more than 10 times, and we regularly come back here.
The city has a long history that dates back to 360 BC when it was inhabited by the Illyrians. The island was the frontier between the regions of Liburnia and Dalmatia. From the third century BC to the sixth century AD Rab was part of the Roman empire, and Emperor Augustus proclaimed it a municipium in 10 BC. It was the first town of Roman Dalmatia to be given the honorary title "felix".
Nowdays, its a stunning medieval city, that is definitely worth a visit. There is a cinema, library, many beautiful streets and churches, and even a forest park Komrčar - founded in 1890 by Pravdoje Belia, it has 10 acres in size - that means, that its bigger than the whole city! The park is full of more than 100 year old pine trees, and holm oak trees.
And then we received a virtual cache to hide - We immediately knew, that Rab city is the best place where to put it.
So, we created a small tour through the city - with 5 stages where you have to take a photo of you, or your personal item. Logs without all 5 photos will be deleted - I am a precise owner, I will be checking the logs :)
STAGE 1
Your tour through the city begins on the beach. Here, you will find some very interesting rocks - "Honeycomb sandstones". They were formed by saltwater evaporating in the sandstone boulders, leaving behind the salt, which chemically reacted with the sandstone, leaving behind these iconic holes.
Fun fact: These are the most photographed rocks on Rab!
Your task: Take a photo of the information table or of the sandstones with you or your personal item. Alternatively, when the beach is too crowded, a close-up photo of the rocks will also be accepted.
STAGE 2
Now, take the nearby stairs up the hill. You are walking through the forest-park Komrčar. Your next stage is on a viewpoint, located on top of the old city wall. When you are on top of the hill, take a turn right, around the city wall. Now, when you are behind the wall, go through a gate on the left, and up the stairs. You are now standing at one of (if not the best) views in the city.
Your task: Take a photo of the view with you or your personal item. Alternatively, when for any reason the entrance gate is closed, a photo from in front of the gate will be accepted.
STAGE 3
After you have finished enjoying the view, go back down, and follow the arrow. After a while, you will arrive at Trg Slobode - a small square, with another beautiful view. On the right side, you may notice a big red wall. This is the wall of the church of St. Justin, on which you will find many many signatures of people, that have been here before.
Your task: Take a photo of the view and/or the wall (may be a detail or a signature that you like) with you or your personal item.
STAGE 4
Now, keep following the arrow and on the interscrion, go up. You are now standing below the highest tower on the island - The campanile of the Cathedral of the Holy Virgin Mary's Assumption - It is 26 meters high and it from the top you will see the best view of the city!
But it is only open from 9:30 - 13, 19:30 - 22 on Mon - Sat and 11-13, 19:45-22 on Sundays, and it costs 5€ to visit. We want this cache to be available 24/7, and who wants to pay money to find a cache, so a photo of the tower (from the bottom) is also accepted.
Your task: Take a photo of you or your personal item from either the top of the tower or with the tower from the bottom.
STAGE 5
We are slowly approaching the end of our tour. The last stage is in park Dorka. Continue along the street, and in front of the church, take the stairs down. Now, go in the middle of the park - there is a statue of St. Marinus - This is the guy who has founded San Marino! He was born on Rab in circa 275 AD.
Your task: Take a photo of you or your personal item with the statue of Saint Marinus.
