Geocache Description:

About James Herriot (James Alfred Wight)

James Alfred Wight OBE FRCVS (1916–1995) was a British veterinary surgeon whose semi‑autobiographical books made him one of the most beloved authors of the 20th century. Under the pen name James Herriot, he wrote warm, humorous, and often poignant stories based on his experiences as a rural veterinarian in the Yorkshire Dales.

After graduating from Glasgow Veterinary College in 1939, he moved to Thirsk, North Yorkshire, where he joined a veterinary practice and remained there for nearly half a century.
