ENGLISH
This Virtual Cache is located in one of the most moving and significant places in Europe: the former Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp.
The railway tracks leading towards the barracks were the route taken by thousands of deported people during the Second World War. Beyond these tracks stand the barracks where prisoners were held in inhumane conditions.
Between 1940 and 1945, Auschwitz became one of the main sites of the Holocaust. More than one million people were murdered here, the vast majority of them Jews, along with many other victims persecuted by the Nazi regime.
Today, this place stands as a memorial to the victims and as a reminder of one of the darkest chapters in recent history. Walking along these tracks and seeing the barracks is a deeply moving experience.
A DEEPLY PERSONAL REASON
This Virtual Cache was born from a deeply personal experience that is difficult to put into words.
I had the opportunity to make this trip to Poland together with my children and, during a week, we visited places that brought us closer in a very special way to everything that happened during the Second World War.
Sharing this journey with them, seeing these places together, and being able to pass on to them the importance of knowing and remembering our history has undoubtedly been an experience that we will always carry with us.
This Virtual Cache is my small way of paying tribute to all the victims and keeping their memory alive, with the hope that future generations will learn about what happened and never forget the consequences of hatred, intolerance and violence.
