The Trail
Navigate the solar system, from the sun to the outer planets by following the bike and walking trail on the City of Port Phillipâs foreshore.
In 2008, artists and scientists constructed a model of our solar system to a scale of one to one billion between St Kilda and Port Melbourne. Instead of navigating 5.9 billion kilometres from the sun to Pluto, you only travel 5.9 kilometres.
The trail starts at the sun sculpture, near the white lighthouse in Marina Reserve at the south end of St Kilda Beach. From the sun, follow the foreshore trail north to visit the eight planets, accurately scaled to size and distance. You can walk to the first five planets within 20 minutes. The furthest object, the dwarf planet Pluto at Sandridge Beach, can be reached within 90 minutes.

Â
To put the model into perspective:
- Every millimetre you walk is equivalent to 1,000 kilometres.
- Every centimetre you walk is equivalent to 10,000 kilometres.
- Every metre you walk (one and a half steps) is equivalent to 1,000,000 kilometres.

Logging the Cache
At the posted coordinates, you will find yourself at the beginning of the sculpture trail at the Sun.
-
To claim a find, simply take a photo of yourself or an object with your geocaching account name clearly visible, with the Sun in the photo. The image must be uploaded with your online log.
-
You do NOT need to visit all of the planets to log this cache. However, it is a lovely walk along the foreshore and IÂ highly recommend it (at least to Jupiter) if you have time.

Logs not supported by the photo requested above may be deleted. Your photo must be posted in your Found log. Please do not send it to me by email or message.
