Le Tombe dei Giganti, il cui nome nasce dalla fantasia popolare, sono monumenti riutilizzati in età nuragica come tombe collettive, presumibilmente in uso tra il Bronzo Antico e il Bronzo Finale (1800-1100 a.C.) e sono presenti in tutta la Sardegna.
La tomba di Aiodda presenta il classico schema con ampia esedra semicircolare a lastroni e i resti di una grande stele centrale spezzata trasversalmente alla base, forata da un portello d'ingresso rettangolare.
Nel sito, scavato nel 1979, furono rinvenute molte statue menhir in calcare (oggi esposte al Museo Archeologico di Sassari) di cui alcune, piccole e uniformi, furono riutilizzate e inserite all’interno del monumento funebre probabilmente dopo un periodo di abbandono e dissacrazione.
The Giants' Tombs, whose name comes from popular imagination, are monuments reused in the Nuragic age as collective tombs, presumably in use between the Early and Late Bronze Ages (1800-1100 BC) and are present throughout Sardinia.
The Aiodda tomb features the classic layout with a large semicircular exedra of large slabs and the remains of a large central stele broken transversely at the base, pierced by a rectangular entrance door.
At the site, excavated in 1979, many limestone menhir statues were found (now on display at the Archaeological Museum of Sassari), some of which, small and uniform, were reused and inserted into the funerary monument, likely after a period of abandonment and desecration.
