Geocache Description:

America Turns 250: The Beginning - 1776

Although the geocaches in this open series can have any theme imaginable--or no theme at all--for "the beginning" cache, I wanted to go back to the Revolution and create a simple puzzle. Perhaps all the subsequent ones could also focus on a year ... at least for the cache title.

Congrats to MIKEY MAC for the FTS!
Congrats to two bison for the FTF!

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates. Here are 15 people all Americans should know. As is often the case, use first-letter-of-last-name (except for Clue K) and the last digit of A1Z26 decoding:

A. Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army and first U.S. President, his leadership held the army together and secured victory.
B. Aide-de-camp to Washington, battlefield commander at Yorktown, he was arguably the most important figure in forming the new nation's financial system.
C. In 1781 the Continental Army and their French reinforcements encircled him at Yorktown, laying siege to the British force and cementing his legacy as the British general who lost the last major battle of the conflict in North America.
D. This French aristocrat and military officer became a Major General, providing vital military aid and securing French support.
E. (+1) Known as the "Father of the Constitution," he was instrumental in creating the new government structure after the war.
F. Principal author of the Declaration of Independence, he provided the philosophical foundation for the revolution.
G. President of the Continental Congress and a major financial supporter of the patriot cause, he was the first signer of the Declaration.

H. A key political leader who pushed for independence, served on the Declaration committee, and managed war diplomacy, he was the first vice president of the United States.
I. (+1) A patriot of both African and Wampanoag heritage, he is remembered as one of the first people to lose their lives in the Revolution following an altercation with British troops that became known as the Boston Massacre.
J. A primary agitator for independence, leader and founder of the Sons of Liberty, he was a leading organizer of the Boston Tea Party.
K. (-3) Britain’s monarch from 1760 until his death in 1820, he was the “tyrant” from whom the colonists wanted to break free.
L. Remembered for his sabotage, this general in the Continental Army, upset after missing out on promotions, turned coat to deliver information to the British.
M. (-1) Considered the second in command of the Continental Army at the end of the war, he was given command of the Continental Army in the South in 1780, where his mobile tactics were hugely successful.
N. Diplomat who secured the essential French alliance, edited the Declaration, and helped negotiate the Treaty of Paris.
O. Author of Common Sense, which shifted public opinion toward independence, and The American Crisis.
