Geocache Description:

Date :  21 February 2026

Start time : 09:00

End time : 10:30

(please note that a CITO has to be one hour , so to qualify one only have to participate for that period (if you so wish) and not the entire advertised time.

"Friends of Batavia Street Fynbos Area" who is now officialy acknowledged by the city has made a big difference with the help of geocachers and other friends in regards to the clearing and maintenance of invasive species.

Being end of summer most of our invasive species is almost non existing and waiting for the winter rains.

This CITO thus should be less strenious than the CITOs before.  We will be litter picking and hunting down the odd Port Jackson who is trying to get that root down as far as possible without being detected.

Having walked the area recently I have also noticed the odd Devils thorn growing in the hope of re seeding.

February to April is sadly also the time for English Primrose to bloom and thus seed.   We think the Primrose is a remnant of the "rough sleepers" that occupied the area previously.  Any Primrose seen will also be removed and needs to be taken note of to prevent future problems.

We are starting early to try avoid the sun but bring drinks and sun protection.

Plastic bags (with compliment of CoCT) will be supplied.
