In the quiet Danish town of Værløse lived many Geocachers as well as a decreasing number of Geocaching reviewers.
One of the Geocachers, Mr. TULL, worked in computer security and was not comfortable trusting big IT players with his most guarded secrets - his Geocaching notes with coordinates for solved mysteries. Seeing the many leaks that had happened for difficult caches in the area, he had to be careful!
An idea came to mind. What if he designed, implemented, and ran his own system for storing Geocaching notes?
All great things start with a name! Hmm. Yes.. GCSOLS.. that would do. Short and to the point. A site to store Geocaching solutions. He would host the solution on his own server and thus be completely protected against attacks.
If others wanted also to use his secure system that would be ok. They could sign up using their email and use the system.
So, Mr. TULL got started. He spent many hours thinking, coding and debugging. With a little help from ChatGPT, he was able to have the full solution working in a few days. He deployed it using a free DNS service at gcsols.duckdns.org.
To be extra careful, he also created for himself a dedicated email to use for the system. Based on his love for security, it should not be a surprise that it was a Proton Mail, `gcsols@proton.me`. He registered the email in GCSOLS and started putting important secrets in the system.
