Ippon Bridge is located approximately 320 meters downstream from Sannō Bridge across the Ōoka River. It is a bridge on Reconstruction Road Route 20, constructed as part of the expansion and new construction of the old street, crossing the Ooka River. Constructed by the City of Yokohama, the bridge width, including the sidewalk, is 20m. This route is short at 945m in length, with the main section crossing the city center north-south. To the south, it crosses the Nakamura River and connects to the road on the right bank of the Horikiri River (currently National Route 16, Yokosuka Kaido).
The origin of the name “Ipponbashi” (One-Pillar Bridge) is unclear, but the name suggests it may have once been a simple bridge, perhaps resembling a log bridge.
A drawing shows that the piers of the earthquake reconstruction bridge originally featured decorative tower-shaped lighting columns, as shown in the left illustration. However, these lighting columns are no longer present. The railings, created in 1988, were designed by sculptor Kiichi Sumikawa using the character for “person” (人).
Although the tower-shaped lighting columns are absent and the railings differ from the original, the bridge structure itself appears to be in use as it was built
