Geocache Description:

This event will be followed by the CITO Birdhouse event later this month.

Saskatoon Young Naturalists (the youth part of the Saskatoon Nature Society) have been monitoring bluebird and Tree Swallow populations in the Saskatoon area since 1969. This long term study (called a Bluebird trail) involves monitoring approximately 250 nest boxes (birdhouses). Over time the nest boxes break down and need to be replaced.

At this workshop style event we will be joined by Greg Fenty from Saskatoon Young Naturalists who will show us how to build birdhouses. You will then be able to assemble birdhouses that will later be used at the CITO event! While the construction materials will be provided, you may bring your own tools (see the list below).

Where: meeting room at the Round Prairie Library

When: March 9th (Monday) at 6:15pm.

If you'd like to participate in assembling the birdhouses, please bring the following tools:

  • Drill - with Robertson #2 (Square head) bit.
  • Pliers

Building part will not take very long, because a group of geocachers can easily craft a lot of birdhouses at once. So we can use this time to ask Greg to tell us about the Birdhouse trail and what other birding activities it may offer. Bring questions!

Please consider donating a loonie to help cover rental costs for the event ($21).
