Ο αριθμός π είναι μια μαθηματική σταθερά οριζόμενη ως ο λόγος της περιφέρειας P προς τη διάμετρο δ ενός κύκλου, δηλαδή π=P/δ. Είναι ένας αριθμός που η δεκαδική του αναπαράσταση δεν τελειώνει ποτέ και δεν έχει μια επαναλαμβανόμενη ακολουθία ψηφίων. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι μπορεί κανείς να βρει ακόμα και την ημερομηνία γέννησης του, ή και το τηλέφωνό του, κάπου σε αυτή την άπειρη ακολουθία!
Ο καθολικός χαρακτήρας του τον καθιστά μια από τις πιο ευρέως γνωστές μαθηματικές σταθερές, όχι μόνο μέσα στην επιστημονική κοινότητα αλλά και εκτός και έχει αποτελέσει θέμα λογοτεχνικών βιβλίων. Ο αριθμός π γιορτάζεται κάθε χρόνο στις 14 Μαρτίου, την λεγόμενη «ημέρα του π» .
Η Αθηναϊκή Geocaching Κοινότητα για να τιμήσει αυτό τον μοναδικό αριθμό δημιούργησε μια σειρά από 22 κρύπτες μυστηρίου. Οι κρύπτες έχουν ως θέμα τον π και οι τελικές συντεταγμένες δημιουργούν μια κυκλική power trail διαδρομή στο Ποικίλον Όρος.

The number π (pi) is a mathematical constant defined as the ratio of the circumference C to the diameter d of a circle, that is, π=C/d. It is a number whose decimal representation never ends and does not have a repeating sequence of digits. Hence, it is possible to find even your birthday date or your phone number, somewhere in that infinite sequence!
Its universal character makes it one of the most widely known mathematical constants, not only within the scientific community but also outside of it and has been the subject of literary books. The number π is celebrated every year on March 14, the so-called “π day”.
The Athenian Geocaching Community, to honor this unique number, created a series of 22 mystery caches. The caches have the theme of π and the final coordinates create a circular power trail route on Mount Poikilon.
