25 Years of the Texas Challenge - Bastrop State Park (2014)

The 12th Annual Texas Challenge was held March 20–23, 2014, in Bastrop, Texas, hosted by the TXGA Central Texas Region. By its twelfth year, the Texas Challenge had evolved into the premier annual geocaching social and competitive event in the state, drawing participants from across Texas, other U.S. states, and even internationally. The weekend blended a high-intensity team competition with a full slate of social events, including registration and kickoff gatherings, raffles and silent auctions, kid-friendly programming, community activities, and a concluding CITO (Cache In, Trash Out) event. Participants competed on Saturday in a fast-paced challenge involving specially placed temporary caches and activities spread across a large playing field in and around Bastrop, with strict rules governing start times, scoring, and submission of scorecards

A defining aspect of the 2014 event was its breadth and creativity. This was one of the early Texas Challenge events to prominently feature Geocaching Lab Caches, which were available starting Thursday and introduced a newer cache type to many attendees. The event also included distinctive local flavor, such as the humorous and much-discussed Bridge Spittin’ Ceremony, extensive use of themed challenge caches and a highly organized trackables trading system with directional bins (North, South, East, West, International, etc.).

25 Years of Texas Challenges Activity

In March of 2027, TXGA will be celebrating our 25th Annual Texas Challenge in West Texas.  To help commemorate this incredible milestone TXGA is announcing a special project - 25 Years of Texas Challenges.  Starting in March of 2026 - TXGA will be releasing a series of 25 Anniversary Caches.  Each of these caches will be hidden “near” the location of that year’s Challenge and will have information and history of that specific Challenge.  In addition to the normal contents - each cache will contain a special punch that corresponds to that year’s event and a number of Passports. (Scorecards can also be downloaded from the TXGA website using the link above).  The first 50 people to find all 25 asnniversary caches and complete the scorecards by punching their passports will receive a commemorative 25 Years of Texas Challenge Coin.  The coins will be delivered at a special award ceremony at the 25th Texas Challenge in March 2027.  Who knows there may also be some other interesting prizes available along the way so pay attention to the contents of the caches and the cache pages!

This activity is being sponsored by the Texas Geocaching Association (TXGA) the group that promotes and supports geocaching in Texas.  If you are new to geocaching and/or want more info abou this or other TXGA activities check us out Texas Geocaching Association (TXGA)

The winning team for the 2014 Texas Challenge was North Texas (NTX), which captured the overall victory and brought home the Golden Ammo Can trophy. Multiple logs confirm North Texas’s win, with several NTX competitors also tying for the highest individual scores, underscoring both the depth and coordination of the team’s performance. This victory continued North Texas’s strong competitive tradition at the Texas Challenge and was widely celebrated during the Saturday evening awards ceremony
