Fontes de Estômbar

O Parque Municipal das Fontes, Fontes de Estômbar ou Sítio das Fontes, localiza-se no início e ao longo das margens de um esteiro da margem esquerda do Rio Arade, na localidade de Eira Alta, perto da vila de Estômbar, Município de Lagoa.

É um terreno com cerca de 18 ha (180.000 m⊃2;) e um local vasto de ecossistemas onde reina o convivio com a Natureza. Essencialmente procurado para a prática de piqueniques, este parque vê o Rio Arade passar por si vindo de Silves em direcção ao Alantico.

Neste parque existe um muinho de maré recuperado, uma casa Algarvia reconstruída, um anfiteatro ao ar livre e um percurso para a prática de exercício físico e uma lagoa que se forma com a água das fontes, onde se pode tomar banho.

É também importante do ponto de vista histórico-cultural porque ali se encontram vestígios de actividades humanas que datam de tempos remotos. Os dois moinhos de água são os testemunhos mais eloquentes dessa actividade humana. A antiguidade de pelo menos um deles está documentada no "Livro do Almoxarifado de Silves", do Século XV, que se refere a uma"(…) açenha das fontes em que fez Vicente Pirez huu moynho (…)".

É assim que, dada a sua beleza natural e importância ecológica, a existência de várias nascentes de grande caudal e o património histórico-cultural, tem sido tradicionalmente utilizado pelas populações locais para actividades de lazer, comemoração de datas festivas e contacto com a natureza.

Estômbar Fountains

The Municipal Park of the Fountains, Estômbar Fountains or Fountain Site, is located at the beginning and along the banks of an estuary on the left bank of the Arade River, in the locality of Eira Alta, near the town of Estômbar, Municipality of Lagoa.

It is a plot of land covering approximately 18 hectares (180,000 m⊃2;) and a vast area of ​​ecosystems where coexistence with nature reigns. Primarily sought after for picnics, this park overlooks the Arade River flowing through it from Silves towards the Atlantic.

Within this park there is a restored tidal mill, a reconstructed Algarve house, an open-air amphitheater, a path for physical exercise, and a lagoon formed by the water from the fountains, where one can swim.

It is also important from a historical and cultural point of view because it contains traces of human activities dating back to ancient times. The two watermills are the most eloquent testimonies of this human activity. The antiquity of at least one of them is documented in the "Livro do Almoxarifado de Silves" (Book of the Silves Storehouse), from the 15th century, which refers to a "(...) mill of the springs where Vicente Pirez made a mill (...)".

Thus, given its natural beauty and ecological importance, the existence of several high-flow springs and its historical and cultural heritage, it has been traditionally used by local populations for leisure activities, celebration of festive dates and contact with nature.
