This event is now part of a special series highlighting creative caches.
Geocachers who log “Attended” on this event will receive the official Maker Magic souvenir.
Welcome to the first Garage Gadgets Event!
If you love geocaching, tinkering, or just seeing how creative a cache can be, then roll up your sleeves.... You’re in the right place!
Join us for a TWO PART MAKER EVENT designed for builders of every skill level.
TWO GADGET CACHES have been released within walking distance of the park. One is a simple puzzle and the second is a cache fully built out of re-used parts. We will be here eraly setting up so feel free to come early and try them or stay after the event!
Part 1 — Gadget Build Workshop (First 30 Minutes)
We’ll kick things off with a mini‑build session!
Creative caches recieve many favorite points and get very rewarding logs! So lets build one... I will provide you the parts to assemble a small gadget component that was designed for the event. Attendees will assemble their piece on-site and be able to take it home. Your build here is intended to be the components that you can build into a complete cache when you get home.
For inspiration.... I will have 1 or 2 examples on site of what this gadget kit can be built into with very minimal work!
I hope you will build this small gadget into an actual cache and release it! Lets see CT get some fun caches released this year!
Please bring a phillips screwdriver if you have one... No tools? No problem! I will have spares on site
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please log your will attend before the event itself. I will be basing the number of gadget kits I make from the number of will attends. If you and multiple others log your attendance the night before, I may not have enough spare kits. Everyone who logs your attendance at least 3 days before the event will have a gadget kit waiting for them.
The event is free of charge, however if you would like to contribute to the cost of the gadget builds, each gadget kit costs me $5.
People who contribute to the costs of this event will receive a raffle ticket to win one of the example gadget caches that I built to show what the gadget kit can be built into.
Part 2 — Gadget Brainstorming Session (Second 30 Minutes)
For the second half, the garage doors open to creativity.
Everyone is encouraged to bring an item— NEW or USED, strange, common or quirky—that you think could be turned into a cache.
Together we’ll brainstorm ideas, discuss mechanisms, share building tips, and spark inspiration for future hides.
Whether you’re a seasoned hider or completely new to gadget caches, Hopefully you’ll leave here with some new ideas and new inspiration for hiding!
One of the gadgets that will be released for this event is fully built out of reused components. The purpose of this half of the event is to show a cache can be built out of anything you have lying around the house and that fun hides do not have to be expensive!
