Geocache Description:

Geocachers are invited to join 1st Llanfairpwll Scouts for a hands‑on Maker Magic workshop where you can help young people in the local community to design and create their own imaginative geocaches in order to work towards their Geocaching activity badge! Hopefully, the Scouts will have the chance to learn directly from you experienced finders and makers, while attending geocachers can earn the official Maker Magic souvenir!

For the badge, the Scouts will work in their patrols to explore what makes a cache fun, durable, and distinctive, then bring their ideas to life using craft materials, recycled items, and simple tools. Geocachers can support by sharing examples, offering tips, and guiding the design process. The Scouts will have to make at least one cache per patrol, and at least two must be hidden - you can hopefully look forward to finding them shortly after the event!

We will also be covering the navigation element of geocaching, including how to follow bearings and how to use a GPS. If you have a device please bring it along, so that the Scouts can get an idea of all of the different types of GPS devices available.

This event takes place during a regular Scout meeting. We have about 25 Scouts at current. All crafting materials will be provided, but cachers are welcome to bring interesting containers, camouflage materials or examples to spark ideas. No crafting experience is required, just enthusiasm and a willingness to help our young people explore the creative side of geocaching. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the evening. All attendees will also be awarded their own Geocaching activity badge - you've probably all already earned it 100 times over!

We have a car park, but after leaders have parked we will be limited to about 6-8 spaces. There is room to park on the road. Please be mindful of parents dropping off and picking up their Scouts around the start and finish times - car park traffic chaos usually starts at around 19:50!

Attendees will receive a safeguarding briefing upon arrival. This event has been approved by a Section Leader (myself) and the Group Lead Volunteer.
