SideTracked - Moorine Rock

About the Location
Moorine Rock was originally known as Parker's Road because of its proximity to a track leading to Parker Range, where gold had been discovered by a Mr Parker in 1888. However, it was renamed allegedly because of confusion with a Parker Road in Southern Cross and the Parker Range gold mining area.
The original station, located within the townsite, was built to support the Eastern Goldfields Railway. Moorine Rock was one of four sites between Northam and Southern Cross chosen to build dams to collect water to supply steam rail operations. The dam was built before 1895. The town was eventually gazetted in 1932.
Like many stations on the Eastern Goldfields Railway, with changes in the locomotive power from steam to diesel, standadisation of rail gauges to support transcontinental freight and realignment of the tracks to smooth curveture and remove level crossing to improve speed and reliability of operation, the station was rellocated. Today, Moorine Rock is located well away from town adjacent to the wheat bins.

Access Information
Catch the Prospector to this cache. Alternatively, the cache is 2WD accessible (unsealead via Saxby Rd and Liddell Rd for 1.24km) from Great Eastern Highway. There is no room to turn a caravan or towing vehicle adjacent the station. These vehicles should take Bin Road and park opposite the station, before crossing the tracks on foot.
