Geocache Description:


Daniel Carey was born May 10, 1961 in Lawrence, Kansas. He started drumming at age 10. In his senior year of high school in Paola, Kansas, Carey joined the high school jazz band. Carey also played jazz while attending college and got to experience the jazz scene in Kansas City. After college, he moved to Portland, Oregon and eventually Los Angeles, California.
He played with various bands in the rock and country genres which added to his unique style. In 1990, he became a founding member of the alternative metal band, Tool after practicing with them in place of drummers the band had requested but had never shown up. He was ranked 26th among the 100 greatest drummers of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.
