Back in the day the Ride Anton Lake Classic was a bucket list event for cyclists. Held in Switzerland, the three day event included a variety of races and fun rides that appealed to all types of cyclists. Many European riders would ride their bikes to the event because of the many scenic routes available. A benefit was reduced vehicle traffic and parking issues in the small venue.
Bicycles of all brands, colors, and sizes would be there. The “Cycle Show and Shine” displayed all of them on the large park lawn the evening after the first rides. The wide variety of color combinations by both manufacturers and owner customization were a sight to behold. The custom color schemes were imaginative. The color names were proudly displayed on signs about the origin of the bicycles and their beautiful paint.
Advertising posters for the RAL Classic were distributed across Europe and some locations in the United States. The event was sponsored by the RAL Cycling Club which eventually succumbed to dwindling membership. The event faded into obscurity. But the memory of the colorful cycles was never forgotten.
