Geocache Description:

Pieces of NoVAGO Pi - a GeoArt

NoVAGO

Note: This park is open from dawn to dusk. Please ONLY search for these caches then.
Failure to do so jeopardizes your ability to cache in the park.

This 15-cache geoart was conceived as a way for cachers in Northern Virginia to enjoy a day in Mickie Gordon County Park while gathering enough Unknown caches to satisfy the requirements for three Geocaching souvenirs available on the 2026 Pi Day weekend. Along the way, you can learn a little more about Northern Virginia. In addition, depending on the cache, you will also be exposed to some Pi, Pie, or Pizza (Pie) trivia. Answering the trivia questions will reveal the final coordinates for the cache. You will also have the opportunity to find a Bonus cache for the series.

To determine the cache coordinates for each cache, you will have to answer two questions: one about one of the NoVAGO jurisdictions and the other about either Pi, Pie, or Pizza Pie. The correct city/county answer will provide the decimal minute of the latitude and the Pi/Pie/Pizza answer will provide the decimal minute of the longitude. The degrees and minutes are consistent across the park for both latitude and longitude (N 38 58.nnn W 077 42.www).

Manassas Park

Manassas Park, formed by legislation in 1975, is considered to be Virginia's youngest independent city and is also its second smallest. It was initially settled in 1955 as a subdivision. Two years later that subdivision was incorporated as a town. In 1974, after an additional 600 acres was annexed by the town, the process for independent city status moved forward rapidly.

How many diamonds are part of the Seal of the City of Manassas Park?
x) 3 (123)
y) 6 (314)
z) 9 (408)

Pie

While calculating the value of pi was interesting (to many mathematicians), it was not until 1760 that it was proven that pi was irrational and would never be expressed as a simple fraction, such as 22/7. Johann Heinrich Lambert, whose heritage ties to the Alsace region of Europe, was the author of the proof. It was not until 1882 that pi was also proven to be transcendental, which made the irrational proof moot.

When it comes to desserts, pies compete with many other options to capture the sweet tooth of people across the country. According to a relatively recent survey, what is the most popular dessert for Americans?
a) Apple Pie! (523)
b) Cake (314)
c) Cookies (413)
