This is an official Maker Magic event. Anyone who logs an 'Attended' on this event will receive the official Maker Magic souvenir.

Maker Magic geocaching events will be taking place around the world from 9 to 30 April this year.
When a well-designed geocache makes us smile with delight, it can feel like magic. Finding something a bit different really can make someone's day. We would like to inspire you to create a new cache of your own and exchange ideas for geocache hides with others.
Come along, not only to learn about the hobby of geocaching, but also to get ideas for crafting some geocache containers.
At our previous Magic Maker event, we displayed some containers that were rather different to the usual bison, tube and film pot. Some of them were made of wood in MrF's workshop, and others were made using items modified and repurposed for geocaching containers; bird boxes opening different ways, a toy rat, a decoy duck and plumbers' fittings all waterproof and suitable to be placed in appropriate locations. We will bring some along, together with a couple of gadget caches we have in the making. Anyone who missed out last time, and those of you who are new to the game, can see the different types of hides. Feel free to bring along your own examples of some of your clever hides to share with the group.
Containers are only one part of hiding a successful geocache. We also plan to have a discussion around the following topics.
Types of Caches
- What are the different types of geocache hides?
- How do they differ?
- What do these differences mean in relation to getting them published?
Location
- Where can/can't you place a geocache?
- What are the geocache radius rules?
- What are all the different kind of geocaches about?
- Why are you placing a cache here?
- What makes it a good place?
Coordinates
- It is very important to ensure you have obtained accurate coordinates for your cache placement. How do you do this?
Permission
- All geocaches require a landowner's permission: How do I get it? What resources exist to help me?
Cache Page
- How to format your page to make it look pretty
- What needs to be on the page and how to add images, links, etc
Submitting for Review
- It is important to provide your reviewer with as much information as possible about where and how your cache is hidden, including a description of the container and details on how to solve it if it is not at the posted coordinates.
Being a Cache Owner
- There is a responsibility to being a cache owner.
- Maintenance is fundamental.
- Always place your cache before you click the Submit button.
- What works as a quality cache container, and what doesn't.
- Where can you source caching materials, such as Rite in the Rain paper, that can improve the longevity of your cache?
- What constitutes great SWAG?
