Du står nu vid den gamla avfarten från Essingeleden vid trafikplats Kristineberg. Den stängdes i samband med ombyggnaden av trafikplatsen mellan 2011 och 2013, när västra Kungsholmen började omvandlas från industriområde till bostadsområde. Den nya avfarten byggdes mer yteffektivt för att frigöra mark till stadens utveckling.
Området runt Hornsberg har en lång industrihistoria. Redan på 1700-talet låg fabriker här och under 1800-talet blev Hornsbergs bryggeri en av de större verksamheterna i området. När Essingeleden byggdes på 1960-talet blev trafikplatsen en viktig koppling mellan motorvägen och industrikvarteren längs vattnet.
Idag är mycket förändrat. Där det tidigare låg fabriker, lager och trafikytor finns nu bostäder, parker och promenadstråk längs Hornsbergs strand.
Men den gamla avfarten finns fortfarande kvar – ett litet spår av hur platsen en gång såg ut.
You are now standing by the old exit from Essingeleden at the Kristineberg interchange. It was closed during the reconstruction of the interchange between 2011 and 2013, when western Kungsholmen began its transformation from an industrial area into a residential neighborhood. The new exit was built in a more space-efficient way in order to free up land for the city’s development.
The area around Hornsberg has a long industrial history. As early as the 18th century there were factories here, and during the 19th century Hornsberg Brewery became one of the larger businesses in the area. When Essingeleden was built in the 1960s, the interchange became an important link between the motorway and the industrial blocks along the waterfront.
Today, much has changed. Where factories, warehouses, and traffic areas once stood, there are now homes, parks, and walking paths along Hornsbergs Strand.
But the old exit still remains – a small trace of what this place once looked like.
